Jane Abrams for the past thirty-five years has lived and worked in Los Ranchos Village in the north valley near Albuquerque. Her travels to Mexico, Central America, Spain and Asia and beyond have introduced exotic subjects into her pulsing, colorful canvases.
She says of her work, "my sensory wanderings through cloud forests of Guatemala, along the ghats of northern India, in mountains of Thailand and the familiar fields, deserts, acequias and rivers of New Mexico provide the inspirational source for my paintings.
As I wander here and there, the places with the strongest emotional attraction are areas of the earth where the stability of land meets the fluidity of water. Events in the universe, planetary shifts, seasonal changes and even political interruptions...all these occurrences and more are recorded in this dynamic interface. Often these observations are the beginning of a painting.
The Everglades is the site of my most recent artist residency award...the place where I rediscovered how a landscape painting is as much a revelation of the facets of the mind as it is an exploration of the wonders of the natural world. The Everglades paintings to come will emerge from my repository of memory and obsessions discovered in the staggering magic of this vast yet intricate place.”
